9th November 2019
Following the success of the second Run for a Chance organized by Lovely Disabled Home in 2018, Lovely Disabled Home (“LDH”) has returned with a third successive run on 9th November 2019. The run has attracted approximately 1,500 participants, including more than 130 members for the disabled community. 130 volunteers from various schools and colleges also supported the run.
The objective of the run is to raise funds for the Home’s operational costs for year 2020 as Lovely Disabled Home is a center that provides working opportunities for member of the disabled community. This year, LDH successfully raised close to RM120K for the home’s operational costs for year 2020. In addition to this, the Run also serves as a platform to promote LDH’s own line of socks to the public. The socks are exclusively packed by the disabled members, and with every sale of the socks, this has created a job opportunity for the disabled members, thus creating a sense of fulfilment and belonging in them.
The run consists of two categories, the 10km long-distance run and 3km Fun Run specially for families and members of the disabled community. The 10km category run was flag-off at 7am by YB Tony Pua (Member of Parliament for Damansara), Dato Jack Lee Shieng Wei, the Diamond Sponsor from Omnipay, and Cheng Zhee Long, the CP Marathon Runner.
YB Lim Yi Wei (ADUN Kg Tunku), YB Jamaliah Jamaluddin (ADUN Bandar Utama), and Lum Kok Kiong (founder of Lovely Disabled Home) was responsible to flag off the 3km Fun Run category.
In the spirit of raising awareness on People with Disabilities (PWD), the registration for PWD participants was free of charge. This was made possible due to the generous donations from the public.
Upon completion of the run, each participant received a special designed chevron-shaped medal, with the image of runners running together. This symbolizes unity and harmony in motion, running together with a common cause to raise awareness for our Friends with Disabilities.
The event was officiated by YB Tony Pua, YB Lim Yi Wei, YB Jamaliah Jamaluddin, Dato Jack Lee Shieng Wei from Omnipay, Mabel Huang from Citta Mall, Lum Kok Kiang and Cecilia Chen from Lovely Disabled Home, Tan Mei Jiun the organizing Chairman, Chan Wei Wei and Grace Wang (LDH socks ambassador) and Cheng Zhee Long (CP Marathon Runner).
Participants were treated to 100 Plus at the Water Stations, and Milo from the Milo Truck at the end of the run. There was a festive vibe throughout the event, as participants were able to enjoy some fun games and activities set up at the booths by LPA. There were also various performances lined up, such as dance and percussion instruments by LDH’s very own members, Drum Circle performance by VE Drum Circle and singing performance by Beta Teo, Champion of the International Hau Hee Karaoke 2016.
Most participants stayed back to participate in the lucky draw, as they could be one of the 42 lucky winners to walk away with prizes such as Lego Sets, foldable bicycle, scooter and electronic appliances.
LDH would like to thank all sponsors, Omnipay, LPA Team, Senri, PSC, Kang Sing, Union Café, Lego, F&N (100 Plus), Nestle Milo and Citta Mall (venue sponsor) and Prime (official apparel) for making the event a success.
